Apogee Entertainment and Trigger Happy Interactive have announced Total Chaos, an upcoming horror experience scheduled for release on PC via Steam in the second quarter of 2025. The game is developed by New Zealand-based studio, Trigger Happy Interactive, known for their work on Turbo Overkill.
Key Features and Details
Total Chaos places players in a state of isolation within the labyrinthine ruins of Fort Oasis, where they must fend off relentless creatures that seem to adapt their attacks based on the player’s actions. Players will have to improvise with any tools available—such as pipe wrenches and makeshift axes—to survive.
A free demo is set to launch in early 2025 for PC players on Steam, allowing fans to get a taste of the game before its full release later in the year. Additionally, VR support is currently under development by the team.
Narrative and Gameplay
The narrative takes players through extended chapters and new locales, offering an immersive experience that challenges their perception of reality and memory within the game’s environment. The tenth chapter will be available as optional DLC alongside the PC release.
“This game is designed to make you feel truly helpless and alone,” said Sam Prebble, developer at Trigger Happy Interactive. “Survival horror is about more than just jump scares—it’s about atmosphere and psychological tension.”
Inspiration and Development
Total Chaos draws inspiration from classic survival horror games but incorporates modern game design elements to create an immersive experience. Dynamic lighting, moody soundscapes, and a fear-inducing musical score contribute to the overall atmosphere.
Said Prebble: “Total Chaos is an expanded and significantly upgraded reimagining of my award-winning GZDoom-based mod that came out in 2018. This Unity remaster actually exceeds my original vision for the game.”
Release Timeline
The free demo will launch on Steam early next year, providing an opportunity to experience some key gameplay elements before the full release of Total Chaos in Q2 2025. The game promises a deep dive into fear and survival, with players navigating through a hostile environment filled with evolving threats.
Total Chaos‘s blend of psychological tension and modern horror design aims to set it apart from other titles within the genre, offering a fresh take on isolation and survival in a visually striking and atmospheric world.
