Nintendo has officially announced its next console, titled “Nintendo Switch 2,” slated for release in 2025. The company unveiled the first look at the hardware through a dedicated trailer and provided details regarding backward compatibility, upcoming events, and pre-release experiences.
Hardware and Compatibility
The “Nintendo Switch 2” will be able to play both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games alongside its own exclusive titles. However, Nintendo clarified that some older Switch games may not be fully compatible with the new system. Specific details regarding compatibility will be shared on the official Nintendo website at a later date.
Launch Events and Hands-On Opportunities
Nintendo plans to host “Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 – 4.2.2025” on April 2nd, 2025, promising further details about the console. Additionally, “Nintendo Switch 2 Experience” events will be held in major cities worldwide, allowing consumers to try out the new hardware firsthand.
The “Nintendo Switch 2 Experience” tour will kick off in North America with stops in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Toronto throughout April. European dates are scheduled for Paris, London, Milan, Berlin, and Madrid in April and May. Oceania will see an event in Melbourne in May, while Asia will host events in Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, and Taipei between late April and early June.
