INTI CREATES announced today that “Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark,” the latest entry in their gothic-inspired action-adventure series, will launch digitally on all platforms come March 27th, 2025. The game marks a significant transition into Metroidvania territory, expanding its gameplay and scope.
Expanding the Demon Realm
“Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark” significantly broadens the game world from a singular castle to an expansive Demon Realm. This new title introduces two playable characters, Kirika and Masha, each with distinct playstyles that can be switched between during gameplay to uncover hidden areas and take on enemies and bosses.
The storyline centers around the quest to revive the Demon Lord Maxim by collecting scattered bones throughout the vast Demon Realm. Players will navigate through a world where demons are both allies and foes, fighting against Demon Hunters from the Human Realm in an intricate narrative setting.
Metroidvania Gameplay
The game maintains the acclaimed action elements from “Gal Guardians: Demon Purge” but introduces Metroidvania mechanics. This includes exploring a nonlinear map filled with secrets and traps, upgrading characters’ abilities through sub-weapons, and solving puzzles to progress.
Kirika and Masha, the game’s two playable sisters, offer different combat styles. Kirika uses ranged attacks with demonic guns while Masha utilizes a whip for close combat. Both can use demonic energy for sub-weapons, which are critical to overcoming challenges.
Gameplay Features
Players will find numerous items and enhancements throughout the game, including consumable goods, sub-weapons, and Demon Relics that provide passive boosts. These resources can be used to customize abilities and unlock new areas of the map. Additionally, players have the option for local or online* two-player co-op gameplay.
*Online co-op will be added post-launch via a future update.
