Independent developer Sandfall Interactive and publisher Kepler Interactive have announced that the highly anticipated turn-based RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will launch on April 24, 2025. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S (day one with Xbox Game Pass), and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Digital pre-orders are now live, alongside physical editions for select regions.
New Gameplay Features and Characters Unveiled
During today’s Xbox Developer Direct presentation, Sandfall Interactive shared fresh details about the game’s story, gameplay features, and characters. Set in a world inspired by Belle Époque France, the game combines emotional storytelling with innovative reactive turn-based combat. This system blends traditional RPG mechanics with real-time defensive and offensive abilities, offering a modern twist on classic gameplay.
The presentation also introduced two new characters: Monoco the Gestral (voiced by Rich Keeble) and Esquie (voiced by Maxence Cazorla). Monoco is a fully playable character who can transform into enemies and use their abilities in battle, adding a unique layer of strategy. Meanwhile, Esquie serves as a key companion for exploration, allowing players to traverse land, water, and air across the game’s expansive overworld map.
Exploration and Overworld Features
The overworld map gives players freedom to explore diverse locations like the Ancient Sanctuary and Gestral Village while uncovering hidden caves and optional battles. Players can also set up camp to upgrade weapons, customize builds, and interact with teammates to deepen their understanding of the story. These features enhance the game’s focus on character development and exploration as players prepare to face the Paintress.
