SteamDolls: Order of Chaos, a new stealth-action platformer from French-Belgian studio The Shady Gentleman, has launched in Early Access on Steam. Alongside the release, a fresh launch trailer has been unveiled, giving players a closer look at the game’s dark, steampunk-inspired world.
A Steampunk City on the Brink
In SteamDolls, players take on the role of The Whisper, a ruthless and eccentric anti-hero brought to life by David Hayter, the iconic voice of Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid. The game challenges players to balance stealth and brutal combat as they navigate a sprawling city on the edge of chaos. Whether you choose to strike from the shadows or engage enemies head-on with devastating finishers, the gameplay offers flexibility to suit different playstyles.

The Early Access version includes six chapters, offering an estimated 5–7 hours of content. Players will explore diverse and eerie environments, including an overgrown chapel, a grotesque underworld made of flesh, and an industrial bunker crackling with electricity. Treasures collected during exploration can be used to upgrade The Whisper’s abilities at his home base, which is also customizable. These upgrades not only enhance gameplay but unlock additional lore and cinematic sequences.
A Blend of Artistry and Talent
SteamDolls began as a comic book concept before being developed into a full-fledged game following a successful crowdfunding campaign. The game features a distinctive 2D-meets-3D art style inspired by graphic novels, with hand-drawn cutscenes interspersed with cinematic inserts. Its voice cast includes notable names like Christopher Randolph and Jennifer Hale alongside Hayter, adding depth to the game’s narrative.

The gameplay combines “stealth-lite” mechanics with action-platforming. Players can hack terminals to uncover memories of the past, solve puzzles, and piece together fragments of this crumbling world’s story. Fans of exploration-heavy games like Hollow Knight or Dead Cells may find its mix of intricate level design and brutal combat appealing.
SteamDolls: Order of Chaos is now available in Early Access on Steam, with language support for English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. A free demo is also available for those curious about diving into its steampunk universe.
