Games People Play has announced ‘SpreadCheat,’ a puzzle game that brings back memories of 90s office life through spreadsheet challenges. Set to release on PC (Steam) in the first quarter of 2025, the game offers players an experience with a Japanese language option.
Game Overview
‘SpreadCheat’ is a puzzle game where players take on the role of a new accountant at a fictional company. As the only one capable of using spreadsheets properly in a jock-culture environment, you are referred to as the “PC Otaku.” The game challenges players with tasks ranging from filling in missing values and correcting references to navigating absurd office scenarios.
Gameplay Mechanics
Your objective is to complete spreadsheets by dragging and dropping values into empty cells. Each task comes with unique requirements, such as achieving a specific total or ensuring cell accuracy. The game offers humorous elements between tasks, like dealing with virus-infected PCs and suspicious email attachments.
Nostalgic Interface
The interface is modeled after Windows 3.1, creating an authentic nostalgic experience for players familiar with early computer systems. A digital assistant named “Copy” provides additional comedic relief while distracting from your tasks.
Announcement and Demo Availability
‘SpreadCheat’ was announced during the “The MIX Fall Showcase 2024,” an event hosted by the indie game community The MIX. Players can now experience a demo version of ‘SpreadCheat,’ which is available on Steam.
The full release of ‘SpreadCheat’ is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025, with the demo already accessible on the Steam store page.
