Rise of the Ronin Brings Its Samurai Action to Steam in March 2025

KOEI TECMO America and Team NINJA have announced that their critically acclaimed open-world action RPG, Rise of the Ronin, will release on Windows PC via Steam on March 10, 2025. Previously exclusive to PlayStation 5, the game immerses players in Japan’s tumultuous Bakumatsu era, where they step into the role of a Ronin navigating war, political upheaval, and personal choices that shape the nation’s fate. The Steam version will introduce enhanced PC features, including support for 8K resolution, 120fps, ray tracing, and more.

A Journey Through Japan’s Bakumatsu Era

Set in 1863 during the final years of the Tokugawa Shogunate, Rise of the Ronin places players in a nation on the brink of transformation. As Western powers arrive and internal strife escalates, players take on the role of a masterless samurai tasked with forging their own path. The game emphasizes player choice, allowing decisions such as assassinating or protecting historical figures like Ryoma Sakamoto to influence multiple endings.

The game boasts a deep combat system with customizable weapons and fighting styles. Players can wield traditional melee weapons like katana, spears, and odachi or opt for long-range options such as guns and bows. Combat strategies can be adapted based on enemy types and weaponry. Beyond battles, players can explore Edo-period cities like Kyoto and Yokohama, complete with seasonal changes that bring cherry blossoms and autumn leaves to life. Tools like a grappling rope and an Avicula glider enhance exploration and provide unique vantage points for photo mode enthusiasts.
