Slitherine has announced a demo for their upcoming World War II real-time strategy game, Platoon Commander. The demo, showcased today at RTS Fest, allows players to experience the game’s first mission as a German commander during the crucial advance toward Moscow in 1941.
Realistic Real-Time Battles
Platoon Commander blends real-time tactical combat with a turn-based campaign map. Players command platoons, choosing from over 40 unit types representing both the Wehrmacht and the Red Army. The game emphasizes depth and realism, incorporating features like destructible environments, psychological troop simulation, and a sophisticated ballistic model for authentic tank warfare.
Players must manage their forces strategically, considering factors such as visibility mechanics tied to different terrain types and the morale of their troops under fire. Artillery support and smoke screens add further tactical options to the battlefield.

Campaign Scope and Demo Content
The full game will feature a campaign covering the territory between Germany’s border and Moscow, with 20 unique maps presenting diverse tactical challenges. The RTS Fest demo focuses on the initial German push, tasking players with capturing and defending a Soviet village against counterattacks. This offers a glimpse into the squad-based gameplay and challenging scenarios that await in the full release.

Slitherine’s Growing Focus on RTS
This latest title builds upon Slitherine’s recent success in the real-time strategy genre. Following the launch of Starship Troopers: Terran Command, Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance, and ICBM: Escalation, Slitherine has solidified its presence beyond traditional turn-based wargames.
With Broken Arrow also on the horizon, Slitherine appears committed to expanding its RTS offerings, catering to a growing audience interested in historically-inspired real-time strategy gameplay.
