Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap Launches with New Co-op and Roguelite Features

The latest chapter in Robot Entertainment’s long-running Orcs Must Die! series, Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap, is now available on Steam, the Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and as a day-one addition to Xbox Game Pass. This fifth installment in the franchise introduces significant gameplay innovations while retaining the series’ signature blend of action, strategy, and humor.

New Features and Gameplay Innovations

Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap builds on the franchise’s core tower defense mechanics with a roguelite twist. Players take on waves of orcs and other creatures in randomized runs that feature unique buffs, debuffs, and environmental modifiers. This ensures no two sessions are alike, adding replayability to the game’s already chaotic formula. Players can also face off against powerful Orc Generals in challenging boss fights at the end of each run.

The game supports solo play or co-op for up to four players, with dynamic scaling to keep the difficulty balanced. The introduction of new War Mages—each equipped with unique weapons, abilities, and traps—further diversifies gameplay. These characters cater to different playstyles and encourage teamwork in co-op mode.

Enhanced Combat and Classic Charm

Combat has been upgraded with tighter third-person shooting mechanics and melee options. Players can utilize a wide array of traps, from classic setups like spike floors and arrow walls to new additions such as harpoons and ice turrets. The game also maintains the series’ trademark humor, over-the-top physics, and adrenaline-pumping soundtrack.

While Deathtrap delivers fresh experiences with its roguelite structure and expanded progression systems, it stays true to its roots by embracing the chaotic orc-slaying fun that fans have come to love.

Reception and Performance

Initial reviews praise Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap for its engaging gameplay loop and creative new features. However, some critics noted issues with pacing during longer runs and a lack of tutorialization for certain mechanics. Performance is reportedly smooth on PC but has faced criticism for visual fidelity on Xbox consoles, which may require future updates.

Despite these minor drawbacks, Deathtrap is being hailed as a strong evolution for the franchise, appealing to both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
