Neon Abyss 2 Enters Early Access in 2025 with New Features and a Playtest Option

The chaotic cybermyth roguelike Neon Abyss 2, developed by Veewo Games, is set to launch in Early Access on PC via Steam in 2025. As a sequel to the critically acclaimed Neon Abyss, this installment builds on the original’s success with faster-paced action, expanded gameplay systems, and new features. Fans eager to get an early glimpse can request access to the demo through Steam’s playtest program.

Looking Back at Neon Abyss

Released in July 2020, Neon Abyss quickly established itself as a standout roguelike action-platformer. Developed by Veewo Games and published by Team17, the game featured procedurally generated dungeons, unlimited item synergies, and a unique dungeon evolution system that kept gameplay fresh. Players took on the role of members of the Grim Squad, descending into a neon-lit underworld to confront modernized “New Gods” inspired by internet culture and corporate greed.

The game was praised for its engaging mechanics, including collectible eggs that hatched into pets with special abilities and evolving traits. Its dynamic item synergy system allowed players to stack countless passive effects, creating unpredictable and powerful builds. Critics also highlighted its vibrant pixel art style and energetic soundtrack. While some noted repetitive level designs, the game’s fast-paced combat and addictive progression loop earned it a loyal fanbase. On Steam, Neon Abyss boasts over 22,000 reviews with a “Very Positive” rating, cementing its place as one of the most beloved indie roguelikes of recent years.

What’s New in Neon Abyss 2?

Neon Abyss 2 aims to take everything players loved about the first game and expand upon it. The sequel introduces diverse combat styles, allowing players to choose between melee weapons like bats and sabers, ranged attacks using deadly plants, or summoning dragon-like creatures as allies. This flexibility encourages experimentation and unique playstyles.

The game retains its hallmark feature of unlimited item synergies while introducing new mechanics like the Faith System. Players can earn Faith points during runs and spend them on powerful items, recruitable Hatchmon companions, or gamble for greater rewards. Hatchmons return with more customization options and evolutions, adding depth to each run.

Early Access Details and Demo Availability

The Early Access version of Neon Abyss 2 will feature more levels, enemies, characters, and bosses than its predecessor. It will also support online co-op multiplayer for players who want to tackle the Abyss together. Veewo Games plans to expand the game throughout the Early Access period, which is expected to continue into 2026.

For those eager to explore the game ahead of its Early Access release, Veewo Games is offering a playtest option through Steam. Interested players can request access directly on the game’s Steam page and will be notified when spots become available.
