Door 407 has recently unveiled details about their upcoming prequel, Diplomacy Is Not An Option: Shareware, a free game that sets the stage for the main title scheduled to launch on October 4th. The prequel focuses on Duncan Ironbrow and includes two story missions as well as an exclusive map layout for Endless Mode.

Set in a medieval fantasy realm, Diplomacy Is Not An Option: Shareware is a base-building survival RTS that incorporates strategic gameplay elements such as economy management and military development. Players will find themselves developing their economies to hire armies and fortifying their positions against enemy forces.
The game features over 25,000 enemies assaulting the castle walls with detailed physics-based combat mechanics for arrows, catapult stones, and other projectiles. Effective use of towers and clear lines of sight are crucial to counter these threats effectively.

Managing resources such as food, wood, stone, iron, and gold is essential for both building up a city’s economy and sustaining military operations. Players must strategize carefully to gather resources, choose storage locations, plan expansions and upgrades, and trade via merchant dirigibles to maintain their defenses against invading forces.
In addition to physical fortifications, players can also explore the magical elements of the game by trapping enemy souls and using spells that alter the course of battles. Magical monuments, soul crystals, and the ability to freeze time offer unique strategic advantages in combat scenarios.

For those interested, Diplomacy Is Not An Option: Shareware can be downloaded from its Steam page, offering an early look into this immersive medieval strategy experience before the full game’s release later this year.
